Local ‘Flexipreneur’ Kym Davis who runs Mini First Aid Cambridge knows first-hand just how terrifying it can be when your child becomes suddenly unwell. One of Kym’s sons, Lewis contracted meningitis at fourteen years old, thankfully making a full recovery. When Lewis developed a number of meningitis symptoms, Kym knew she had to act quickly.

Kym says:

“When Lewis contracted meningitis at 14, it was incredibly scary. I am a Mum first and foremost and despite being a specialist nurse, still rang 111 for information and reassurance. Having first aid skills can literally change a child’s life and only for the better.”

Kym is certainly no stranger to a whole host of first aid situations at home, with 4 children and 2 step children to keep her busy.  Kym had to administer back slaps to another of her sons at nine months old when he choked on a 2 pence piece.

Kym’s professional experience as a family nurse and health visitor puts her in the ideal position to teach adults and children about basic and life-saving first aid. Running Mini First Aid Cambridge gives Kym the flexibility of running her own business, whilst spending time with family.

Kym says:

“I love that I am giving people the skills and knowledge to be able to save a life and make informed choices about what to do in a range of emergency situations. I see people come into the class looking worried about what is to come and I watch them leave the class smiling and feeling well equipped.”

Kym has exciting plans for expanding Mini First Aid Cambridge to help make sure every parent and carer has access to a Mini First Aid class, whether living in a local town or rural village. Due to her work as a health visitor, Kym has forged valuable community links to help her reach parents & carers who will benefit from learning the basics of life saving first aid.

‘Mini’ may be in her business name, but Kym is thinking big!
